Westmark Lower Campus
AJ Kirkwood & Associates played a key role in the construction of Westmark Lower School, a groundbreaking net-zero carbon campus in Encino, California. Designed to support students with learning differences, the new lower school provides a safe, inclusive, and nature-focused environment that promotes creativity, engagement, and well-being. The project involved the new construction of four K–5 school buildings on an existing private K–12 campus. These buildings feature 10 classrooms with dedicated resource rooms, a multi-purpose theater with an ETC theatrical lighting system, sound booth, and rack-mounted lighting, as well as an instruction room, occupational therapy room, counselor office, and teacher's lounge. The campus also includes a playground, an exterior amphitheater, a new basketball court, a single elevator, and projector screens throughout. Infrastructure has been put in place to support future solar installations.
AJK was responsible for the full electrical scope of the project, including the installation of all power and lighting systems. Additionally, our Low Voltage Division delivered comprehensive systems integration across the campus, including security, networked intercom, panic buttons, and synchronized networked clock systems. Westmark Lower School stands as a forward-thinking model of sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity in education, and AJK is proud to have been a part of bringing it to life.
